Allah gives the world to anyone, but Allah only gives knowledge those who He (Allah) loves. Nothing will come to you while you are sitting, you have to look for the knowledge and actions should come along with. There are so many Muslims around the world but the question is, are they good Muslims? Did you ever wonder about how to be a good Muslim? Here are some steps of how to be a good Muslim:

• Have a hope that things will be well.  Even if you feel that you are already too deep in sin to turn around and become a good Muslim is still possible.
• Pray five times a day. It does not matters where you are and what you are doing you have to pray on time.
• Encourage Muslims to pray.
• Fast as much as you can
• Pay Zakat (alms) and go to Hijja (pilgrimage) if you are able.
• Read the Quran at least one hour a day. Learn the meaning of the Quran. Reading the Quran will help establish a useful relationship with Allah and also allow you to understand how beautiful the religion is. It also makes you feel closer to Allah. Quran is the key of life.
• Learn more about Islam. Know what you have to do “wajib” things and what you cannot do “haram’ things. Study hadith (how our prophet lived his life).  hadithes are three parts: the actions that the Prophet did, what the Prophet said and what the Prophet approved when companions did on his presence.
• Attend regularly Islamic classes whenever is possible.
• Disseminate the teachings of Quran (through websites, text etc.)
• Dress modestly. This does not mean that you have to look ugly or not stylish. Stay away from clothes that are too tight. Remember that it is obligatory to cover the whole body except the face and hands if you are a female.
• Be careful of who you hang out with “friends” be sure to find GOOD friends.
• Become active member of your Islamic organization
• Forgive yourself for any sins you may have committed. You need to let it go of past mistakes and work on improving the future. Whatever has happened is done.
• There are so many masajids in MN, take part of what is going on. Trust me these things will make you successful.
• Notice where your weaknesses are and avoid them.
• Learn dua’s, seera( biography) of the Prophet and stories of the  Prophets and the companions.

Can a good Muslim be a good American as well? Why not, it just depends on the person. Being a good citizen comes with great responsibility. Here are some steps of how to be good and civic citizen:

• Go to school: middle school, high school and college etc.
• Be a good student:  Go classes on time, study hard and be respectful to everyone.
• Have dreams of what you want to be so you can achieve it in the future.
• Always keep your eye into the future.
• If you work, be honest to your job. Remember Allah always sees you.
• Do volunteer in your Islamic organization/community and help others
• Learn about other political system, nations and cultures.
• Be truthful, justice and trustworthy.

When you are at somewhere, you have the picture of Islam; let the people notice that you are Muslim by just looking at you. Show them that you are proud to be a Muslim. We build a stronger nation by sticking together and taking care of the least of us. We have so much opportunities and chances. Many people do not have the chances that we have. Remember the basic stuff in our lives have big affect in our lives. If we learn our basics and do it, there would not be any problems. And always remember good Muslim can be a good American as well.
