As the mirage of summer memories fade away and we welcome the glowing of the new fall leaves, Islamic Civic Society of America Youth Council (ICSAYC) look back at both their accomplishments from the past few months to their newer projects ahead. The joyous vibrant ideas of Ramadan and its practices have concluded and through out the month the youth ICSA Youth Council kept busy being both the main chief volunteers and attendees of all ICSA activities. During the month of Ramadan, and events organized by ICSA Youth Council was held and overthrown by knowledge and constancy. The attendees of the event enjoyed both the structure and numerous exchanges of ideas especially in the debate, which questioned the youth on the progress, and success of the East African Immigrant Community in Minnesota in the next 20 years. This event concluded with an astonishing recitation of Quran where youth, boys and girls took on head in head on a competition for who comprehend more of the memorization. It was indeed an event, which its spirit followed.
The month of Ramadan also meant lots of meetings, planning, idealizing, organizing, and just plain contemplating. ICSA Youth Council, came up with an idea of holding “1st Islamic Eid Carnival” following the last day of Ramadan, The vent which was held at Huset Park in Columbia Heights, Minnesota was a huge success, bringing in crowds of people and leaving many kids cheering as they drove away. The festivities concluded with the annual Eid celebration hosted by ICSA Youth Council and Salahudin Student Union for Salahudin Weekend Islamic School. Coming back in from Ramadan, the youth were back on their feet, it was a new calendar year and one of the programs starting up again including the Interfaith Youth Leadership Coalition, where groups of youth from different faiths came together to host the annual “Interfaith Youth Day of Serve” a informational meeting was held at the center mid-September in order to update and bring together the youth participants of this year. Following that a set of meetings, the 2010-2011 Interactive Academic Contests for High Schools arose, which in fact will star next month. On Friday September 17th, over a dozen high school leaders gathered together for a formal meeting on the 2010-2011 Interactive Academic Contests. During this time, they learned about the program, read over the rules, and signed their schools up for what will be a great year. Today, up to 12 high schools registered their school for the contests.
